Getting exercise right is KEY to weight-loss, improving your fitness and staying injury free. Here are Zest24’s top 5 mistakes that might be ruining your workout:
1.You’re not warming up: warming up is crucial to ensure you avoid injury and have a good range of movement with your exercises (e.g. if you can’t squat very low you’re utilising less muscles), a deeper squat also means improved core stability and faster growing glutes. A good warm up should involve lots of dynamic stretching of all the muscle groups. Tip: start at your feet and work your way up.
2. You do the same workout every week: your body is incredibly smart. Every time you do the same workout, it learns how to become more efficient at completing the same task but using less energy. Obviously, in order to lose weight, we want to use as much energy as possible. If you change up your workouts (time, intensity, type) you body won’t be able to do this as easily. 3. You’re not foam rolling. This is a great way to improve blood circulation which, in turn, speeds up muscle recovery and boosts performance.
4. You’re not taking recovery days or getting enough sleep. Rest and sleep are vital to allow your muscles to repair and grow. Muscle growth results in a higher base metabolic rate (so the more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn in a day). Overtraining can also result in injury, cause excessive tiredness, stress and weight gain.
5. Your technique and form is bad. Poor form can result in serious injuries as well as utilising the wrong muscle groups.
